YONKERS · THE CITY FIELD GUIDE

Yonkers.
Arrange the dog's day.
Then the garden.

Untermyer Gardens does not admit pet dogs. Arrange Yonkers daycare, grooming or boarding before you go, confirm class addresses and save the Odell Plaza ER.

Ordinary pet dogs cannot enter the gardens. A day in Yonkers needs a suitable care arrangement before you set off, not a last-minute assumption at the gate.

The garden visit and the dog's outing need separate plans

Untermyer Gardens, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers, NY 10701, does not admit ordinary pet dogs. The conservancy's FAQ makes an exception for service dogs as defined by the ADA. Bringing a pet on a leash does not change the garden's admission rule.

If the garden is the purpose of your visit, arrange appropriate care for the dog before traveling. If you want to spend the day together, choose an activity whose pet rules allow that. Do not arrive expecting a carer to accept a new dog immediately or assume someone can wait outside with the dog for as long as the visit takes.

Make the plan around the particular dog's needs: time alone, company, rest and a dependable collection arrangement. The useful question is how the whole day works, including travel and handover, rather than how to fit the dog around a sightseeing stop.

Ask what the early daycare start actually allows

Your Pet's Paradise NY lists 791 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704, 914-613-4169. Its website advertises weekday daycare from 6 a.m. and weekends from 8 a.m., while its hours widget shows an 8 a.m.–5 p.m. day. Confirm the actual drop-off and collection window for your date rather than treating either display as your reservation.

The daycare menu separates prices by dog size but does not clearly state the chargeable time unit. Give the dog's weight and intended hours and ask for a total. Some weights fall between the published category ranges; do not choose a category yourself from the nearest number.

Ask how a first meeting, records and acceptance are arranged. A headline saying daycare is available does not establish that group care fits your dog or that a place is held while you visit the gardens. Agree on what happens if your visit runs late.

A grooming appointment is not automatically a day of care

The same provider's grooming menu distinguishes a basic bath with face and sanitary trimming, ears and nails from the full service that adds a haircut. It says pricing depends on size, coat condition and knots, without supplying a numeric haircut quote.

Describe the finish you want and ask for the estimate, appointment duration and pickup instruction. If you also need daycare, request it explicitly and let staff confirm suitability and charges. Do not use the time a dog is booked with a groomer as an assumed all-day care reservation.

A coordinated booking can reduce handovers, but only when the provider agrees to the sequence. The practical confirmation should say when you leave the dog, which services it receives and when you must return.

For an overnight stay, ask County Animal Clinic about the actual availability

VCA County Animal Clinic, 1574 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10710, publishes dog boarding but warns that boarding availability is limited. Its boarding information directs owners to call 914-779-5000 for rates, requirements and space, particularly in advance of holidays.

If the dog needs medication or monitoring, provide the exact instructions and ask what the facility can support. Boarding associated with a veterinary clinic does not establish that every medical need can be accommodated or that a veterinarian remains beside the kennels overnight.

Confirm the chargeable unit and pickup arrangements, including Sunday: the published clinic office schedule lists Sunday closed. That office schedule alone does not settle boarding supervision or whether a special handover is possible. Get the arrangement for your dates directly.

Central Park Avenue has a separate address for lessons

Petco's Yonkers training location is 2350 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10710, 914-961-8287. That is a different destination from County Animal Clinic on the same avenue.

The local page lists six-week group courses at $149, including Fundamentals for dogs six months and older. It also advertises a $39 introductory private lesson for new customers, within its 45-minute private-session offering. Ask the trainer which format and actual dates fit your dog; a private introduction is not the same purchase as the full group course.

Explain the ordinary skills you want to practice, such as settling while you talk to someone or walking past distractions. Plan to participate in the lesson. The broad opening hours on a location page are not permission to arrive for an unscheduled class.

Save Animal Specialty Center at 9 Odell Plaza

Animal Specialty Center lists emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 9 Odell Plaza, Yonkers, NY 10701. Save 914-457-4000 and directions with your temporary carer's notes.

The hospital's emergency page explains that patients are assessed and prioritized by critical status. It cannot guarantee a fixed waiting time. Call about the current situation when possible and discuss any care your dog needs directly with the hospital.
