WORCESTER · THE CITY FIELD GUIDE

Worcester.
The right access.
Then the routine.

Bring a Worcester license to the city's off-leash areas, check what a low boarding rate depends on, book a haircut by name and save the North Grafton ER.

A fenced park, a weekly daycare place and a training class each have their own entry conditions. Check those before building a week around them.

Bring the city license; do not assume a visitor’s tag qualifies

Worcester identifies three off-leash areas: Vernon Hill at 144 Providence Street, Beaver Brook at 27 Mann Street, and Downtown at 38 Green Street. Vernon Hill and Beaver Brook have separate sections for smaller and larger dogs. At Beaver Brook, the city directs drivers to the Chandler Street parking lot, including the accessible route.

The published conditions apply at all three: dogs must carry a Worcester city dog license, have current vaccinations and be older than six months. Each adult may bring at most two dogs. An out-of-town owner should ask Parks & Recreation at 508-799-1190 whether their documentation is acceptable; the page does not establish an equivalent visitor permit.

For a younger puppy, this removes the dog park from the immediate plan. For a visitor, it creates a question to settle before the drive. Neither situation is solved simply by finding a fence on a map. City locations and entry rules.

A low overnight figure may depend on a weekly commitment

At Dogtopia of North Worcester, 71 Pullman Street, the posted daily daycare rate is $52. Overnight boarding is listed at $83 per night for non-enrolled dogs, $72 for enrolled dogs and $30 for dogs on the unlimited enrollment plan. The unlimited daycare plan itself is listed at $230 per week. Treat the $30 figure as a plan-dependent rate, rather than the complete price of a one-off stay.

All boarding dogs join open-play daycare. The operator recommends at least three daycare days before a first overnight and gives enrolled dogs reservation priority. Discuss suitability and admission before relying on this option for a dog that needs separation from other dogs.

There is also a practical timing conflict: the Saturday rate says 9 a.m.–5 p.m., while the footer says 9 a.m.–4 p.m. The footer lists Sunday as closed. Call 508-964-3636 to confirm your actual handover appointment, Sunday arrangements, plan terms and final stay total. Local pricing page.

Book a haircut by its service name

Paws and Claws, 125 Hamilton Street, lists dog full grooms from $75 and dog bubble baths from $40. The full groom includes a haircut alongside bathing, drying, brushing, ear cleaning and nail work. Size, coat type, coat condition and behavior can change the price.

The bath service explicitly excludes animals needing dematting. That matters if a coat has tangled since the last appointment: choosing the cheaper bath on a booking form does not establish that the salon can perform the work required. Describe the coat and request the appropriate service and quote at 508-868-6851. Salon service descriptions.

Dogtopia’s local menu also lists baths and spa services, but that menu does not establish a haircut offering. Ask specifically about cutting the coat if that is the job you need done.

A small class can still be the wrong class

The Right Paw is in Princeton, not Worcester city: 179 Sterling Road, Princeton, MA 01541. Its Kindergarten Puppy course is six weeks for puppies under 16 weeks, with a posted price of $245 and a maximum of six dogs. This is a different age window from the city dog parks.

Beginner Obedience is also listed at $245, with up to four dogs, for friendly dogs aged five months and older. The school specifically excludes dogs that are shy, nervous or aggressive toward unfamiliar people or dogs from that class. A four-dog cap should not be read as permission to enroll a fearful dog anyway.

For fear, anxiety or aggression, the school directs owners to its private-training application. Explain the concern first, then confirm the proposed approach, course dates and commute before paying. Contact 978-464-0429. Course ages, prices and suitability.

Save the hospital entrance, not the university’s mailing address

Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals is at 55 Willard Street, North Grafton, MA 01536. The hospital lists emergency services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call 508-839-5395, option 3 before arrival for triage and arrival guidance.

The emergency department’s stated faculty-presence hours, 7 a.m.–9 p.m., are not its emergency opening hours. Likewise, the university’s 200 Westboro Road administrative address is not the hospital destination above. Save the named hospital and street address together.
