STAMFORD · THE CITY FIELD GUIDE
Stamford.
The last-day groom.
And the checkout clock.
Read the checkout clock on Stamford boarding, reserve a last-day groom early, compare one daycare day with a weekly plan and use the right ER entrance.
A late collection, a haircut and a weekly daycare plan have different charges. Put the actual service and collection time into the quote before comparing the headline rates.

The checkout clock matters even when daycare is included
Room for Paws Pet Resort, 72 Camp Avenue, lists lodging from $69 to $130 per night, depending on the package. Daycare is included, but the timing terms still matter: check-in starts at 3 p.m., and checkout is by 11 a.m. Earlier arrival or later departure can add a half- or full-day daycare charge.
There is a specific exception. Grooming booked on the last day can waive the additional daycare fee after 11 a.m., provided collection happens by normal closing time. This does not make the groom free or authorize collection after hours. Ask for both the grooming charge and the applicable collection deadline.
The lodging page also lists additional charges for house food and medication administration. Cancellation at least 14 days before the stay is described as refundable; cancellations within 14 days become account credit without expiration. Treat cash refund and future credit as different outcomes when deciding how far ahead to reserve. Lodging rates, collection exception and cancellation policy.
Reserve the groom before the boarding stay begins
The resort’s grooming page offers coat clipping and trimming as well as baths, nail work and other services. It asks owners combining grooming with daycare or lodging to reserve ahead: a service requested at drop-off may not be available.
It also asks owners to allow at least four hours for a grooming appointment, with staff contacting them when the dog is ready. That is a planning allowance, not a promise that collection will be possible exactly four hours later. Confirm the requested cut, coat condition, handling needs and price at 203-459-0002, then agree how the salon will notify you.
For a travel return day, coordinate two things: the available grooming appointment and your realistic arrival before closing. A fee waiver is useful only if the appointment and pickup schedule both work. Grooming scope and advance-booking guidance.
Compare an occasional day with the recurring plan you would actually use
Dogtopia Stamford-Downtown, 421 Atlantic Street, Suite 101, lists a full day at $46, a half day at $35 and a Meet & Greet at $25. Its two-days-per-week wellness plan is listed at $78 per week, and the page describes automatic billing and reservation priority for enrolled dogs.
Two standalone full days would total $92 at the listed daily rate. The plan’s $78 figure is therefore a useful comparison for a repeat routine, but it does not answer what happens during a holiday, missed week or cancellation. Ask about those terms before enrolling at 203-716-6013.
The boarding description includes open-play daycare. If group play is a concern, discuss suitability before treating an overnight listing as a separate, quiet-care arrangement. Local daily rates, plans and boarding format.
Use the training format to answer a specific problem
Room for Paws describes positive reinforcement-based training, with five-week sessions, private lessons, boarding with training and day training offered as distinct formats. Its puppy-class description specifies hour-long classes. Get the current dates, admission requirements, fee and owner participation for the particular program you are considering.
Its adult Basic Manners course covers foundational skills. Curb Your Dog’s Enthusiasm builds on known cues by adding distance, duration and distractions. The practical distinction is whether the dog needs to learn the initial skill or practice it in harder situations. Describe what happens on an actual walk or at home so the trainer can advise on placement.
The same page labels Intro to Agility as “Coming Soon.” That listing alone does not establish an available class to book today. Training formats and course descriptions.
Courtland has a separate area with a broader purpose than size alone
The city lists Stamford Dog Park at 53 Courtland Avenue, within Courtland Park. It describes two enclosed areas and says the small-dog area is for dogs under 25 pounds, timid dogs or older dogs.
Do not treat “small dog” as the only condition in that description. Read the current gate rules and assess the dogs already using the area before entering. Check local notices before making the park an essential stop around a timed appointment. City dog-park listing.
At Cornell’s Stamford hospital, use the emergency entrance
Cornell University Veterinary Specialists is at 880 Canal Street, Stamford, CT 06902. It provides emergency care around the clock. Call 203-595-2777 before coming if possible, as the hospital requests.
On arrival, go to the entrance marked Emergency, enter the vestibule and use the intercom to tell staff you have arrived. Tell them if the pet seems critical or you need help bringing the pet inside. A nurse triages arrivals; the presence of a 24-hour service does not establish a fixed waiting time. Emergency arrival instructions; Address and entrance directions.
