City or county?
Check the address.
Match your Roanoke dog tag to city or county, plan Salem boarding around office windows, book a full haircut and walk the greenway on a six-foot leash.
A Roanoke mailing address does not settle your licensing jurisdiction, and a business serving the Roanoke Valley may be in Salem. Check the location before planning the routine.

Check city or county before paying for a tag
Roanoke City and Roanoke County are different local governments. Start with the jurisdiction of your home, rather than choosing a licensing office because the mailing address says Roanoke. Salem is a separate city as well.
For Roanoke County residents, the county's current tag page says it began issuing lifetime animal tags in January 2025 for animals outside its dangerous-dog annual process. The listed lifetime dog fee is $20, and a current rabies certificate is required. Its treasurer's office is at 5204 Bernard Drive, with a Roanoke postal address. Those county terms should not be applied automatically to a home inside Roanoke City. Read the county instructions; city residents should use the City of Roanoke service for their address.
Keep the actual licensing receipt and vaccination record together. A boarding business may ask to see documentation independently of a municipal licensing transaction; paying for a tag is not an admission assessment.
A weekend stay in Salem has a different handover rhythm
Carvins Cove Bed & Biscuit is at 3900 Carvins Cove Road, Salem, VA 24153, telephone 540-384-6736. Its published dog boarding price is $38 per night. A shared-room arrangement has a listed $2-per-dog, per-night discount; ask whether sharing is appropriate for your dogs. Daycare is listed at $18 per day, weekdays only.
Its normal office windows are Monday–Friday 7:30–9:30 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.; Saturday has only the morning window, while Sunday has only 4:30–6 p.m. A Sunday morning return therefore does not match the published collection schedule. Its 2026 holiday calendar adds closures and reduced windows, so check the operator's schedule and current rates for the specific stay.
Before accepting the booking, ask about overnight staffing, individual exercise, medication needs and the process if your dog becomes uncomfortable. A nightly price tells you little about those arrangements. Compare the actual care and your route to Salem with the convenience of care closer to home.
For a haircut in Roanoke, ask for the full service
LuxePup Salon lists its Grand Spa full-groom package from $65, including bath, haircut, nail trim and ear cleaning. Its $40-plus Luxe Refresh is a bath and brush, while the $25-plus Paw Package concerns nails and pads. Those are separate service scopes, not interchangeable quotes for the same dog.
The salon is at 3815 Yellow Mountain Road SE, Suite A, Roanoke, VA 24014, telephone 540-314-9022. Its published hours are Tuesday–Friday 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m., with Monday and Sunday closed. Read the salon's menu and confirm an appointment, coat-condition estimate and collection time. A boarding departure bath elsewhere should not be counted as this complete haircut.
Make the greenway a walk your dog can finish comfortably
The City of Roanoke's greenway guidance requires a leash no longer than six feet. Keep right, leave room for other users and step off the path when stopping. Carry waste bags and water. The city's published greenway hours are 6 a.m.–11 p.m.; those broad hours are not evidence that every segment is accessible or suitable at the moment you arrive.
Start with a short out-and-back plan and a clear turnaround point. Extend it only when the dog's comfort and the conditions allow. If you need to check a paw, adjust equipment or let a bicycle pass, move out of the travel lane rather than letting the leash stretch across it. Read the official greenway safety guidance and any local signs or current closure notices for your route.
A course page can describe a session that is already closed to new students
TheraPets' training page lists a fall session whose introduction was October 16, 2026. As of this research date, that first meeting has passed. The page says registration and payment are not accepted after the first class, so the remaining calendar should not be read as an invitation to join late.
It lists Basic Obedience and Canine Good Citizen instruction, a $110 fee per class and a December 11 CGC test included in the class fee. Meetings are at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, 3591 Windsor Road, Roanoke. Ask the coordinator about the next intake, your dog's suitability and the attendance instructions before making plans. Call 540-632-1009 or use the training page's coordinator contact.
Should I bring my dog to the introduction?
Obtain the instructions for the actual next session. The current page contains both course-specific first-meeting directions and a joint introduction notice; do not guess which applies to a future booking.
