NEWPORT NEWS · THE CITY FIELD GUIDE

Newport News.
Two dogs.
The whole family.

Check Fido Field rules for children and two dogs, compare two-dog daycare, choose the right grooming service and save two Yorktown hospital addresses.

Before choosing a park or buying a care package, check who can enter, who must stay with the dogs and whether your collection time is actually available.

Fido Field does not admit every family group

Fido Field's off-leash area excludes children under 13; children aged 13–16 need an accompanying adult. Each owner or custodian may have no more than two dogs in the enclosure. If a younger child is coming, arrange another adult and a different activity outside the enclosure, or choose a leashed outing everyone can take together. Leaving the dogs inside while supervising a child elsewhere does not work.

The park is at 125 Riverview Parkway, Newport News, VA 23602. Register before entry: the city lists $15 annually for the first dog and $10 for additional dogs at the same residence, with tags valid January–December. Bring your home jurisdiction's dog license and the required vaccination records. Dogs under four months cannot enter; the rules require visible identification and a flat buckle collar or harness. Read the complete rules and registration locations.

A two-dog household's listed registration total is $25 for the year, not $25 per visit. That fee does not establish whether either dog enjoys a shared off-leash space. Leave if the interaction is not comfortable, and keep both dogs leashed outside the designated enclosure.

A two-dog price is useful only after both dogs are accepted

Care-A-Lot's Oyster Point resort is at 301 Oyster Point Road, Newport News, VA 23602. Its daycare menu lists $32 for one dog's full day and $58 for two; two separate one-dog rates would total $64. The $6 difference concerns that published two-pet arrangement, not a claim that this is the cheapest care in the city. Half-day listings are $19 for one or $35 for two. Call 757-369-8320 to confirm eligibility and what counts as a half day.

Newport News weekday daycare hours are listed as 7 a.m.–7 p.m., but 1–2 p.m. is a closed-door rest period with no admission or collection. An errand ending at 1:15 p.m. needs a different collection arrangement. The provider encourages first-time guests to arrange evaluation at least 48 hours before check-in. Read the daycare schedule and rates.

Its boarding page lists a one-time, nonrefundable $30 evaluation, with a complimentary half-day for accepted dogs. Boarding includes daycare, subject to acceptance. Published one-dog accommodation figures run from $44 for economy through $51 standard to $60 deluxe, with size bands; ask for the billing unit and complete dated quote. Weekend boarding handovers have separate morning and afternoon windows. Do not extend the weekday daycare timetable to a Sunday collection.

For two dogs, discuss each separately: one may enjoy group play while the other needs a different care plan. Ask whether meals, rest and sleeping accommodation are shared or separate, and what happens if one cannot continue in the group. A household discount should follow a suitable arrangement, rather than determine it.

An exit bath does not replace a booked haircut

PetSuites Newport News, at 12533 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23606, distinguishes an exit bath, a full bath, a mini groom and a full groom. The exit bath is washing and drying. A mini groom adds limited face, feet and sanitary trimming; the full groom includes the haircut. Specify the work you need when comparing it with a boarding add-on.

The salon publishes full-groom figures of $67 for dogs up to ten pounds and $67-plus for 11–25 pounds. Medium and larger dogs have separate coat categories, so a weight alone does not determine their price. Coat condition and additional handling can change the quote. Its optional DaySpa accommodation is another charge, not an automatic entitlement to daycare.

Call 757-447-2483 and read the local grooming menu. Send an accurate description of the coat and ask how extra work is approved, when the dog will be ready, and whether either dog needs an appointment separate from the other.

Read the attendance conditions before the class starts

On Command Dog Training lists Becky Hendrickson's Saturday 7:30 p.m. Basic Obedience course for November 7–December 12, 2026, at $235 for six weeks. It is for dogs six months and older, with no prerequisite, at 892 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23601. Check the specific course listing for dates and availability, and call 757-846-4404 about suitability and the methods used.

The published terms say there are no make-up classes, and the course becomes nonrefundable and nontransferable after it starts. Put every session against your family calendar before paying, especially during holiday travel. Ask how two household dogs would be handled: do they need separate handlers, separate bookings or different levels? A course's age minimum does not establish that two dogs should attend together.

What should I ask if we will miss a Saturday?

Ask the named trainer about the actual course before enrollment. Do not assume a catch-up lesson, another household member attending or a switch to another session is included. Record any agreed exception in writing.

Save two Yorktown addresses with their actual hours

Animal Emergency Center lists overnight hours every day, including holidays, 5:30 p.m.–8:30 a.m. Its address is 2025 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693, telephone 757-234-0461. That current hospital contact page does not support repeating an old claim of continuous daytime weekend service. Save directions.

Peninsula Animal Referral Center's emergency contact is 757-874-8115, at 1120 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA 23693. When checked on October 23, its emergency page listed office hours of 8 a.m.–10 p.m. daily. Confirm current intake and overnight arrangements by phone; an older referring practice's 24-hour label is not enough. These are two different addresses on the same highway. Neither published schedule promises immediate capacity or a fixed journey time.
