Newark.
Save the destination.
Not just the name.

Update Newark's emergency destination to Short Hills, compare Hillside daycare and boarding units, book Kearny lessons and license where your dog lives.

The care you choose may be in Hillside, Kearny or Short Hills. Check the actual address, handover and return journey before building your day around it.

The old VEG Union link now leads to Millburn–Short Hills

If an old emergency contact says VEG Union on Route 22, update the destination you use for planning. The old official Union link now redirects to the Millburn–Short Hills hospital page. Its current local details are 720 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills, NJ 07078, 908-258-7519, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The telephone number matching an old listing does not make the old street address current. Save directions to 720 Morris Turnpike in your dog's care notes. The hospital describes parking access from Morris Turnpike and accepts emergency walk-ins without an appointment. Call about the situation when possible.

This is a regional emergency option outside Newark, not a claim that it is the nearest or fastest hospital from your starting point. Traffic, access and the care needed affect the actual journey. Give any temporary carer the full address as well as the number.

Daycare and boarding in Hillside have different units

All About Paws is at 39 Coe Avenue, Hillside, NJ 07205, rather than in Newark. Its own service page lists boarding at $45 per night, full-day daycare at $30 and half-day daycare at $20. Confirm how many hours the half-day covers before fitting it to an appointment or work shift.

The business describes a cage-less environment with dogs able to roam and play. Ask how it decides which dogs can share space, how rest or separation works and what supervision continues overnight. Neither the service description nor its daytime reception hours settles those questions for your dog.

Published boarding/daycare hours are 7 a.m.–7 p.m., seven days a week. Call 908-355-0245 for admission requirements, actual drop-off and collection times and the dated total. A published nightly figure does not establish whether daytime care, late collection or another service adds a charge.

Do not attach a Sunday haircut to that boarding booking

All About Paws lists separate grooming hours: Tuesday–Friday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m., with Monday and Sunday closed. Boarding availability on those days does not create a grooming appointment.

The menu starts a wash at $30 and a haircut at $60, but does not clearly settle whether the haircut figure includes the wash. Describe the coat condition and finish you need and ask for a combined total. Confirm whether the dog can move directly from boarding to grooming and when you can collect.

A useful booking note gives the arrival date, departure date, requested grooming service and a reachable telephone number. Let the staff confirm the sequence; do not assume all services happen during the last hour of a stay.

For lessons on Passaic Avenue, choose Kearny deliberately

PetSmart's Kearny training location is 160 Passaic Avenue, Suite 5, Kearny, NJ 07032, 201-428-2864. Confirm this location when asking about a trainer or course. A search result for Newark does not mean the session takes place within Newark.

The company's training requirements describe group courses meeting for one hour each week over six weeks, alongside private options. For a nervous dog, ask about the advertised free 15-minute evaluation and discuss suitability before enrolling. Do not treat group lessons as a behavior consultation for every dog.

Ask the local trainer for the actual start date, meeting time, price, records and equipment needed. General shop opening hours are not a lesson timetable. Plan for your own attendance as well as transporting the dog; a recurring course only works if you can make the same appointment each week.

Plan Branch Brook as a leashed walk while you verify any run

The county lists Branch Brook Park at Park Avenue and Lake Street, Newark, NJ 07104, with part of the park extending into Belleville. See the county park page for the location. Online descriptions disagree about a dog run, and this research has not verified a current designated enclosure there. Do not build an off-leash plan around an unverified listing; keep the dog leashed and read the signs at your entrance.

If a designated dog park is the purpose of the trip, the county explicitly identifies one at Brookdale Park, Watchung Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. That is a separate park outside Newark. Its current page lists winter dog-park hours of 8 a.m.–6 p.m., November 1–March 31. Confirm notices and the exact entrance before setting out.

Essex County's dog-park code requires valid dog-license tags and current vaccinations, limits each person to two dogs and requires a leash of no more than six feet outside the off-leash area. Read its family and dog eligibility rules before bringing children or a young puppy. Do not transfer a reviewer's description of one park to another.

Pay the municipality where the dog lives

Newark's dog-law information describes city licensing for dogs over seven months or with permanent teeth, and registration within ten days of acquiring a dog of licensing age. Ask the city licensing office about the current process and fee.

The New Jersey health department says owners license dogs annually through their home municipality. Its state payment button is for municipal and veterinary administration, not residents buying a pet's license. Visiting a carer in Hillside or a class in Kearny does not change where your dog lives.
