Compare New Orleans boarding, daycare, grooming and training; check City Bark entry and make a storm collection plan before leaving your dog in care.

The person who can collect your dog during a storm matters as much as the overnight price. Settle both before you leave town.

Choose a caregiver and a person who can collect

If you leave New Orleans while your dog boards locally, a reservation alone is an incomplete plan. A flight delay and a business closure can happen together. Ask the provider when care may end, then name someone nearby who can actually collect your dog. Give that person permission, the dog's handling instructions and access to a carrier or safe vehicle restraint.

Agree on a destination as well as a phone number. The collector needs to know whether the dog can share space with other animals, where food and veterinary instructions are kept and who can authorize treatment. Ask the business to acknowledge the collector's name and identification requirements. Do not assume an overnight-care fee includes evacuation transport.

An annual tag can expire before a rabies vaccine

The Louisiana SPCA's Orleans Parish guidance says the rabies tag must be renewed annually even when the vaccination is valid for three years. Keep the current tag on the collar and the vaccination certificate available. Ask your veterinarian when vaccination is due; an annual tag renewal is not automatically an annual injection.

The same guidance requires leashing. Parish boundaries matter: these are Orleans rules, not a statement of requirements for every nearby community. A Metairie hospital address does not change which parish handles your dog's home registration. Keep the microchip registry and the collar contact current separately.

Put copies of the tag, vaccination record and provider acceptance paperwork in the handover folder. A business may require additional records for group care; the government tag alone does not establish admission.

City Bark is a permitted outing, not an open gate

NOLA City Bark at 10 Magnolia Drive requires a permit. Its page lists $85 annually for one dog or $25 for a two-week permit. Dogs must be at least six months old, spayed or neutered, heartworm-negative and current on the specified vaccinations. Children under eight are excluded.

Tuesday access begins at 3 p.m.; other days begin at 5:30 a.m., with closing at 9 p.m. The current page describes digital or printed passes. Check the portal and any maintenance notices before traveling, rather than relying on an old key-card instruction or entering behind someone else's pass. For a dog who struggles in shared play, a quieter controlled walk is a better first outing.

Compare the service and its handover conditions

These provider pages were checked October 9, 2026. They are comparison examples, not endorsements, a market-wide price survey or confirmation of open appointments. Confirm the dog's acceptance and the final quote directly.

Mid City Animal House · name the storm collector

4001 Toulouse Street · 504-373-6640. Its care menu lists daycare at $27, half-day care at $19 and boarding at $40 per night. A complimentary trial is recommended for new clients. Sunday collection windows are 8–10 a.m. and 4–6 p.m.; do not plan a midday pickup without agreement.

The hurricane policy requires a local emergency contact who is reachable around the clock, can make decisions and can collect the dog if a storm threatens. Ask when collection would be requested and what authorization is needed. That condition is more consequential than a small nightly discount.

Dogtopia New Orleans · check the promotion's end

9501 Airline Highway · 504-291-2777. Its pricing page lists daycare at $46 or a half day at $33, and requires a Meet & Greet. Weekly enrollment includes two days at $70 or three at $99.

An unlimited $95 weekly offer is labeled for the first three months, not as a permanent price. Request the later rate, attendance rules and cancellation terms before enrolling. Ask what happens to scheduled visits during a closure and whether the dog is comfortable in this group-care setting.

Pampered Pawz · coat type changes the haircut quote

202 West Harrison Avenue, Lakeview · 504-497-5023. The service menu lists full grooming from $65 for a small dog and $85 for a medium dog, while mini-doodle grooming starts at $75. A small-dog bath starts at $30; it is not the full haircut.

Full grooming includes bathing, drying, nail trimming and ear cleaning. Coat condition and behavior can change the charge; the business says it contacts the owner before a price change. Ask for the proposed cut, a consent limit for extras and the collection window. Do not compare a bath-only quote with a haircut package.

Louisiana SPCA · match the lesson format to the dog

General contact: 504-368-5191. Its training menu describes positive-reinforcement instruction. Private sessions run approximately an hour, at $147 in the home or $125 at the shelter. Confirm travel coverage and the actual appointment venue.

The $150 basic course is five weekly classes for dogs able to coexist without reactive behavior. A separate Reactive Rover format is listed. Explain triggers before booking; an ordinary group class is not a substitute for an individualized safety assessment. Ask how the household will practice calm collection and carrier entry between lessons.

Make the same dates and service visible on both quotes

If Mid City confirms three charged boarding nights at its published $40 rate, the base is $120. Obtain the exact collection appointment and any extras before treating that as the final total. Dogtopia's two-day $70 weekly enrollment is $22 below two $46 day visits, but only compare it after confirming the commitment and that both visits can be used.

A full haircut, a bath and a training package deliver different work. Write down coat treatment, appointment duration, handover, cancellation and storm conditions alongside the cost. The care comparison checklist helps keep those conditions in the decision.

If you cannot evacuate independently, use active City instructions

NOLA Ready describes City-assisted evacuation during a mandatory evacuation, not a standing pet taxi. It directs residents to text EVACNOLA to 77295 for updates. Follow the active announcement before going to an evacuation location; this page does not establish that a hub is open.

The City guidance allows small pets weighing 20 pounds or less in carriers on regular evacuation buses. For larger pets it directs people to call 311 for dedicated pet transport. Confirm arrangements early, with identification, containment and veterinary instructions ready. This emergency process is separate from your caregiver's collection policy.

Check the National Weather Service New Orleans/Baton Rouge forecast alongside City announcements. Ask the local collector to act before routes become unsafe. A price comparison cannot resolve the loss of an accessible collection route.

Save the metro hospital's real location

MedVet New Orleans publishes 24/7 emergency care at 2315 North Causeway Boulevard in Metairie, 504-835-8508. The brand name does not mean the building is inside Orleans Parish. Call for current receiving and travel instructions; a boarding emergency collector should have this address too.

New Orleans care questions that change the booking

Does a three-year rabies vaccine mean a three-year tag?

No. Orleans Parish guidance requires annual tag renewal. Confirm the separate vaccination due date with your veterinarian.

Can I enter City Bark without arranging a permit?

No. Check its permit, health and age requirements, current pass method and Tuesday opening time before visiting.

What should my boarding emergency contact be able to do?

Mid City's policy requires a reachable local person who can decide and collect. Arrange permission, transport and a destination, rather than listing someone who is also away.

Is Dogtopia's $95 unlimited weekly rate permanent?

The advertised offer is limited to the first three months. Ask for the rate and terms that follow it.

Is a $30 small-dog bath the same as full grooming?

No. Pampered Pawz lists those separately. Confirm the haircut, coat work and approved extras in the written quote.

Can I use ordinary City-assisted evacuation buses with a large dog?

NOLA Ready directs owners of larger pets to call 311 about dedicated transport. Use current mandatory-evacuation instructions; do not assume routine bus acceptance.
