Individual care
starts with a conversation.
Ask what individual care means in New Haven, avoid boarding surcharges, get a weight-based grooming quote, check class towns and save the North Haven ER.
A dog that needs space from a group may need a different care format. Read the eligibility rules alongside the menu, then build pickup, grooming and training around the confirmed arrangement.

“Individual” describes the activity, not automatic acceptance
Paw Haven, 1175 State Street, Suite 241, lists full-day pack-play daycare at $46 and individual daycare at $55. For boarding, its individual-enrichment description specifies three 20-minute play sessions. Ask what the rest of the day looks like for your dog, including rest and handovers. Care formats and menu.
Its admission FAQ still calls for an interview and temperament evaluation, vaccination records, and a negative fecal report including giardia from within the previous six months. Dogs aged seven months and older must be spayed or neutered under its published policy. The list also includes general health conditions and friendliness toward dogs and/or people.
If your dog barks at other dogs, guards items or struggles with unfamiliar handling, explain that directly to the team at 203-535-0453. An individual option is a reason to ask how care could work, not evidence that the published requirements have been waived. Admission FAQ: “Can any dog participate…”.
The front desk can be open while a boarding surcharge applies
Paw Haven advertises opening seven days a week, 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Its services page separately lists a $25 early boarding drop-off charge before 11 a.m. and a $25 late boarding pickup charge after 2 p.m. An evening collection can therefore fall within business hours and still carry an added charge.
The menu separates standard and luxury accommodation, plus pack and individual care. Request a dated total identifying the care format, chargeable stay periods, taxes and any medication or food charges. Compare that total against the actual arrival and departure times you need. Boarding options and timing charges.
Weight starts the grooming quote; extra time can change it
Pawtero’s New Haven salon is at 992 State Street, with phone 203-553-1727. Its Full Style Grooming includes a full-body haircut and starts at $104 for dogs weighing 1–20 pounds, $116 for 21–45 pounds, $136 for 46–75 pounds and $164 for 76–150 pounds.
Bath & Tidy is a different service: it includes neatening the face, feet and sanitary area, rather than a full haircut. That distinction is useful when maintaining a coat between complete cuts, but it should not be assumed to cover the same work for less.
The price page lists dematting, extra brushing and handling support at $20 per 15 minutes. For example, if 30 minutes of extra work is agreed, that time charge alone would be $40 above the applicable service price. This is a calculation from the published rate, not a prediction of what your dog will need. Describe coat condition and handling concerns when booking, and confirm the estimate at drop-off. Weight bands, service scope and additional-time charges.
Check which town the course actually meets in
Animal Assisted Therapy Services lists dog-training classes with PAWsitive Approach, including Puppy Kindergarten, Family Manners I and II, and Canine Good Citizen preparation with evaluation. It says most classes take place at its Milford clinic, with additional classes through West Haven Parks & Recreation. These are regional options; neither location should be represented as a New Haven city classroom.
Its course called Introduction to Therapy Dog Work is for handlers only, with no dogs attending. That is especially easy to miss when browsing a list of dog classes. Ask 203-804-5396 or [email protected] for the next appropriate course, exact venue, current fee and whether the dog attends the first meeting. The overview does not establish a currently available place or price. Training overview and attendance distinction.
Make the outdoor plan fit the daylight window
New Haven’s city directory gives dog-park hours as sunrise to sunset. It lists Union Street Dog Park at 87 Union Street, East Rock Dog Park at 107 Mechanic Street, Edgewood Park Dog Park at Whalley Avenue and Fitch Street, and Fort Hale Dog Park at 408 Townsend Avenue.
For an outing after a late pickup, check whether that window has already closed before heading to a dog park. Choose a route around the confirmed care appointment; do not assume an open business elsewhere in the city means its dog parks are open too. Follow the posted rules at the chosen park. City dog-park directory and hours.
New Haven and North Haven are different destinations
Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine’s North Haven location is at 4 Devine Street, North Haven, CT 06473. Its phone is 203-865-0878. The hospital lists emergency care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and welcomes walk-in emergencies.
Save the North Haven address with that number. Central also operates in Guilford, with a different address and telephone number. Its contact page distinguishes emergency access from specialist appointments, which require scheduling. Call the receiving hospital for guidance when arranging emergency care.
