The pickup plan is part of the care

Make a Miami booking that still works when plans change.

A boarding reservation can be perfectly ordinary until a storm changes your flight, building access or collection route. Before choosing a business, decide who can collect your dog if you cannot, where that person will go, and whether the provider accepts the arrangement. “Pet friendly” does not answer any of those questions.

This guide brings together selected City of Miami and county parks, Miami-Dade dog-tag rules, transit access, three care operators and a portable handover. It distinguishes Miami Beach from the mainland and normal customer hours from overnight staffing. It is not a complete county directory, a facility inspection or a live evacuation bulletin.

Your next taskSettle this firstKeep with the booking
A park visitWhich operator manages the specific dog area? The gate location and current closure notice.
A workday awayDoes the care cover all the hours you need?Accepted handover times and a backup collector.
An overnight stayWhat happens if collection is delayed? The total quote and written extension policy.
A weather disruptionWhere can the dog actually be received?Acceptance, route, supplies and contact details.

For a short first visit, ask how the dog rests between activities and how staff report changes. Do not purchase a long package to discover whether the care suits them. A familiar routine, suitable handling and reachable people matter as much as a room photograph.

City and county parks have different operators

Pick a specific dog area and check its notice.

The City of Miami lists Margaret Pace Park at 1745 North Bayshore Drive, with hours of 7 a.m.–10 p.m., a dog park and leash-on access elsewhere. Street parking is charged by the Miami Parking Authority. Locate the enclosure rather than treating the entire waterfront as an off-leash area.

Tropical Park, at 7900 Southwest 40th Street, is a county destination. Its page currently displays a temporary closure for the small-dog dog park. Check again before traveling; the notice has no reopening date that this guide can verify. Do not move a small dog into an unsuitable group solely because the intended enclosure is closed.

Open directions ↗

These map searches help locate the destination; they do not confirm today's conditions. Keep a permitted short route near home as the alternative. On arrival, read the enclosure signs, keep the approach controlled and leave if the group or surface is unsuitable. A canceled park session does not need to become a longer drive.

Check the actual tag expiration

A three-year vaccine does not automatically extend a one-year tag.

Miami-Dade County requires dog licenses for dogs over four months. One-year fees are $30 for altered dogs or dogs under twelve months, and $60 for intact adult dogs. Three-year tags are $90 altered or $180 intact and require the corresponding vaccination documentation. A purchased one-year tag still renews annually even if a three-year vaccine was given. Check your license record rather than inferring its expiration from the vaccine alone.

The county also lists low-income rates with proof of eligibility and a $5 replacement-tag fee. Retain the rabies certificate and tag details with your travel documents. Confirm current contact information in the microchip registry separately; a tag purchase is not the same as updating a chip account.

Keep ordinary-pet transport enclosed.

Miami-Dade Transit requires ordinary animals to be properly enclosed in a cage, kennel or carrier, including an appropriate bag or backpack. The container must not interfere with operation, obstruct aisles or steps, or prevent safe exit. Service animals have different provisions. A leash alone does not meet this ordinary-pet requirement.

Include the trip to and from the care provider in your booking. If the dog cannot use transit's carrier arrangement, confirm an animal-accepting private ride before paying for the appointment. Ask where the handover happens so the driver does not leave you waiting outside an inaccessible entrance.

Do not transfer one park's permission to another.

The county, City of Miami and Miami Beach manage different places. A business using a Miami mailing address or a map result labeled “Miami” does not identify the park authority. Follow the intended location's current rules and signs. Keep the leash attached outside the designated enclosure; a nearby beach or lawn is not an automatic substitute.

Different locations, different access

Compare care and collection together.

Horse Country · Southwest Miami-Dade

Canine Country Club: on-site owners do not mean an open lobby.

6201 Southwest 118th Avenue · 305-274-3267. The live site lists boarding from $60/night and daycare from $40/day. Adult dogs play with their own family group. Boarding includes meals, exercise and medication administration; baths, transport, possible collar charges and holiday adjustments are separate.

The lobby is Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and closed Sunday, although owners live on site. Collection after 4 p.m. incurs a day rate. Baths are required after three days, with the first free for new clients. Confirm the dog-size rate, all compulsory charges and accepted collection time; the public estimate is not a reservation.

Pinecrest / Palmetto Bay area

PAWS4you: arrange records and the noon checkout.

8717 Southwest 134th Street · 305-253-1092. Its listed indoor Junior Suite is $50 overnight; an Executive Suite is $65. Outdoor/indoor kennel prices differ by space and dog size. The page lists an $8/day medication charge and $5/day if food is not supplied.

A $50 deposit is credited toward boarding; refund requires cancellation at least three full business days ahead. Checkout by noon avoids another day's charge. Office hours are Monday–Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m., closed 1–2 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m.–2 p.m.; Sunday closed. Ask about required veterinary records, the recent fecal test, the actual care format and weather relocation. A monitored security system is not proof of continuous hands-on staffing.

Miami Beach · a separate journey

Top Dog Miami: price the dog's age and the visit date.

Top Dog's 2026 menu lists boarding at $90/night, with $25 extra for puppies under one year, $5 for non-neutered dogs and $10 for holidays. A thirty-minute walk is $30, with a $10 weekend/holiday addition. Its contact is 1500 Bay Road, Miami Beach, and 305-744-2393.

Listed customer hours are weekdays 7 a.m.–5 p.m., weekends 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Its daycare rows both say “up to four hours” despite different full- and half-day prices: resolve duration directly before booking. Confirm the service area, pickup charges and handover point rather than assuming a Miami Beach address covers the whole county.

These first-party menus were checked October 6, 2026. They are not a countywide average, an endorsement or proof of availability. Ask the operator about rest, individual handling, vaccine timing and emergency transport. Tell them about actual care needs before making a price comparison.

A final-night number is not the whole trip

Compare a complete itinerary and the disruption terms.

Send every provider the same dates, dog details, arrival and collection times, medication instructions and care requirements. Request one total separating base care, required extras, chosen services, taxes, transport and deposit credit. Put the quote date beside it. If Sunday collection is essential, settle access before calculating a bargain.

QuestionAnswer to retain
What happens after the collection cutoff?Charge, accepted handover time and next opening.
Who can collect if travel is disrupted?Named authorization and identity requirements.
Can prescribed care continue during relocation?Staff acceptance, transport and record-transfer plan.
Which storm cancellations are refundable?Written policy for your actual booking dates.

For arithmetic only, three nights in PAWS4you's listed $50 Junior Suite total $150. If its $8 medication charge applies on three billed days, those two items total $174. Ask how the business counts medication days and whether other charges apply; do not assume that three nights always equal three billable daytime units.

Provider A · written quote
Provider B · written quote

Use complete accepted quotes for equivalent arrangements. The calculator cannot determine availability, medical suitability or how a deposit is refunded. An unknown charge must be clarified, not entered as zero. Our provider comparison checklist helps with the questions behind the number.

Keep your confirmation and cancellation terms in a form you can access if connectivity is interrupted. Record the phone number and branch rather than relying solely on an app chat. If the provider changes the proposed care arrangement, compare the replacement on its own merits; a credit alone does not establish suitability.

Prepare the handover before a warning

Make the dog part of the household's storm plan.

The county and ASPCA's September 2, 2026 preparedness guidance says not to leave pets behind during evacuation and to prepare portable supplies, records and current identification. It recommends enough essentials, including necessary medications, for at least ten days. Discuss prescription supply and storage with the veterinarian; do not change a dose to make it last longer.

Use National Weather Service Miami for current weather and the county's pet-preparedness page for evacuation instructions. Centers are announced as needed; a named shelter in an older article is not confirmation of current access. Pre-registration is not required for county pet-friendly centers, but records, supplies and eligibility still matter. The page says at least one family member must remain with the pet. It also contains differing four-pet wording, so confirm the household limit directly if you have several animals.

A portable handover in four parts.

  1. People: owner, local backup collector and regular veterinarian, with reachable numbers. Confirm who can authorize urgent care.
  2. Places: present care address and the agreed alternate destination. Verify acceptance and route rather than writing “find a pet-friendly hotel.”
  3. Materials: identification, vaccination records, carrier, leash, food, water and veterinarian-issued medication instructions. Keep essentials together.
  4. Decisions: who checks official instructions, who initiates collection and how the provider confirms the dog has reached the next caregiver.

For a dog boarding while you travel, ask: “If this site cannot be used, where will my dog go, who travels with them, and how will you give me the new address?” Add the backup collector's name to the actual reservation. A sitter should not need your unrelated account passwords to follow the plan.

Close the handover with a receipt.

Request a short message recording who collected the dog, the destination and which records and medication went with them. The receiving caregiver should confirm arrival. This closes the gap between “someone was going to collect” and an actual transfer, especially when several family members are coordinating.

For a normal rainy day, keep the task smaller: a familiar permitted toilet route, indoor rest and a factual update. Avoid making a beach trip or a dog-park quota part of every booking. Follow official instructions during a dangerous disruption rather than improvising an outing to meet an exercise target.

Use the garage entrance, not only the street pin

Save VEG Miami's address and arrival instructions.

VEG Miami lists 24/7 emergency care at 2707 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33137; phone 786-539-0339. Its parking and main entrance are through the garage on Northeast 28th Street. Call ahead if help is needed bringing the dog inside.

During a weather disruption, confirm current access and arrival guidance directly. Explain your location, concern and transport limitations; do not assume a normal route or a hospital listing establishes safe access. Keep the regular veterinarian's records and an authorization contact ready.

This page cannot diagnose an emergency or tell you to wait. Speak to the veterinary team about an urgent concern. A contact form and a later routine appointment do not substitute for that call.

The details that prevent a failed handover

Miami dog-care questions.

Does a three-year rabies vaccine renew my one-year dog tag?

No. Check the purchased license's expiration and the county's renewal instructions. A one-year tag still requires annual renewal.

Is Tropical Park's small-dog enclosure available?

The official page checked displays a temporary closure. Check the latest notice; this guide is not a live opening report.

Does overnight staffing guarantee Sunday collection?

No. Ask about customer access on the exact date. Two providers above list closed Sunday offices or lobbies.

Can my ordinary dog use transit on a leash?

The cited policy requires a properly enclosed carrier that does not obstruct operation or safe exit. Service animals have separate provisions.

Can I drop my dog at an evacuation center and leave?

The county page says at least one family member must remain with the pet. Confirm current admission instructions and bring required materials.

Where is VEG Miami's entrance?

The hospital identifies the garage on Northeast 28th Street as its parking and main entrance. Call for assistance and current access.
