LAS VEGAS · PLAN THE HANDOFF
A reliable care day starts with the address and the clock
A Las Vegas trip with a dog can fail before the first outing: the accommodation may prohibit unattended pets, the daycare lobby may close before your event ends, or the dog run may be shut for maintenance. Make those three checks before reserving care. A listing that says “Las Vegas” also does not establish which government handles your residential license.
| Your task | Confirm first | Practical fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Moving into a new home | Whether the residence is inside Las Vegas city limits | Ask the authority serving the actual address before paying a license fee |
| Taking a dog to a northwest city park | The designated run, maintenance window and current closure notice | A permitted leashed route or a short toilet outing, rather than another off-leash area you have not checked |
| Attending an evening event | The final pickup time and what happens if you miss it | An agreed overnight stay or a caregiver whose access is authorized by your accommodation |
| Booking group daycare | Assessment availability and whether the dog is comfortable in that setting | Ask for separate care; do not assume a private room includes individual daytime attention |
This guide helps arrange those decisions. It is not a complete Clark County directory or an inspection of the businesses listed below. Public menus are useful for a shortlist; the provider must confirm acceptance, availability and the final written price for your dog.
Separate the park route from the care destination
Barkin’ Basin and Police Memorial Park are northwest park options. The Sahara boarding facility and Arville pet hotel are separate care destinations, while the Rampart Boulevard hospital is an emergency destination. Pick the location you actually need before opening directions; driving to the closest pin does not establish that it provides the right service.
Barkin’ Basin Park

The map loads only when requested. A map pin is not confirmation of admission, a reservation or a currently open dog run.
Check jurisdiction once; check park access each time
A postal address is not your licensing authority
The city’s licensing page asks residents to verify they live within city limits before using its DocuPet application. Start with that check rather than choosing a government from the words on a mailing address. Save the result with your rabies record and ask the relevant office about the documents and fee that apply to your dog.
If applying in person through the city, its page gives 500 S. Main Street, Suite 110, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Confirm office access before visiting. Do not travel there on the assumption that every Las Vegas-address household is served by that office.
Two parks, different maintenance windows
| Dog-run destination | Address | Regular access detail |
|---|---|---|
| Barkin’ Basin Park | 7351 W. Alexander Road, Las Vegas, NV 89129 | The city lists 7 a.m.–11 p.m. park hours and three dog areas. Routine dog-area maintenance is Monday and Thursday, 11:30 a.m.–4 p.m. |
| Police Memorial Park | 3250 Metro Academy Way, Las Vegas, NV 89129 | The city lists 7 a.m.–11 p.m. hours and three dog runs. Routine run maintenance is Wednesday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. |
A regular schedule cannot rule out renovation or another temporary closure. If a current notice is unclear, confirm with the city before making the trip; Barkin’ Basin’s Ward 4 office lists 702-229-2524. Use posted entrance instructions when you arrive, and keep an alternative available.
The city’s park rules require leashes outside authorized dog areas and prohibit dogs in athletic and children’s play areas. A closed run does not turn the surrounding park into an off-leash replacement. A shaded bench or water fountain also does not establish that conditions are suitable for exercise.
Compare the actual stay, not the lowest starting price
These are examples with public information, not a ranking or a guarantee of care quality. The useful differences are size eligibility, checkout charges, group participation and access hours. Ask the chosen facility to confirm its plan for your dog in writing.
SAHARA · OVERNIGHT CARE
LV Dog Hotel · Sahara
6810 W. Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89146
702-560-7387
The Sahara boarding menu lists Mini at $42/night for dogs under 20 lb, Petite at $64 under 25 lb, and Classic at $74. Checkout is 11 a.m.; staying later, up to 6:30 p.m., adds $19 per pet. Its vaccine list includes canine influenza alongside rabies, Bordetella and distemper/parvo.
Before reserving: ask which room fits the dog’s actual weight, what a separate-play day includes and whether all records are accepted. Pack the requested food and medications; the page permits a small toy but excludes bedding, blankets and bowls. Arrange your own transport: the facility says it does not provide pickup or drop-off.
ARVILLE STREET · DAYCARE AND TRANSPORT
Z Pet Hotels
Hacienda Crossing, 5275 Arville Street, Suite 112, Las Vegas, NV
702-368-0200
The service menu lists Standard boarding at $70/night for one dog and daycare at $40/day. Daycare requires an evaluation before buying a package, runs 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and is unavailable on holidays with possible restrictions around them. Lobby hours are 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; phone coverage of 7 a.m.–7 p.m. is different.
Airport transport is listed at $40 one way or $60 roundtrip. Home, hotel, Strip and downtown transport require a quote. Ask about the exact handoff point, delay policy and whether a late arrival can be received. Group-play boarding is described on the menu; confirm a suitable alternative before booking a dog that needs separate care.
Cost the departure day before comparing rooms
For a dog qualifying for Sahara’s Mini room, two nights at the published $42 rate plus the listed $19 late stay would total $103 before any other applicable charges. That calculation does not apply to a heavier dog or establish availability. Two Standard nights at Z Pet Hotels would begin at $140; transport, the permitted checkout time and other charges still need confirmation. The rooms and routines are different, so the lower arithmetic total alone does not settle the choice.
Send each provider the same request: “One dog, age __, weight __, arriving __ and leaving __. Please confirm acceptance, room, daytime routine, overnight supervision, medication handling, final pickup time, tax, all compulsory extras, deposit and cancellation terms. If my event or flight runs late, who can receive the dog and what is the charge?”
| Question | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| Is the quoted rate per night, calendar day or another interval? | An afternoon pickup may create an extra charge even after only two nights |
| Can my dog pass the required evaluation before the stay? | A package payment does not replace acceptance |
| Who is physically present overnight? | A phone line or camera is not the same as a person on site |
| Can the dog rest apart from group play? | Room privacy and daytime supervision are separate decisions |
| What is the exact return arrangement? | A late show or delayed flight can outlast the lobby’s collection hours |
Use the calculator only after both businesses accept the dog and both quotes cover the same dates and service. Enter the full base charge and all confirmed extras; it compares money, not suitability.
Give the caregiver permission to change the outdoor plan
Check the National Weather Service Las Vegas forecast for the actual destination and time. A cooler-looking month or a park’s opening hour does not guarantee a comfortable walk. The AVMA’s warm-weather guidance warns about hot vehicles and hot walking surfaces, and recommends limiting exercise in hot weather. Do not use a parked vehicle as the waiting area while collecting a room key or checking in.
A usable alternative to a fixed exercise quota
Agree on a short permitted toilet route, an air-conditioned rest space and quiet indoor activity. Ask the provider to stop or shorten an outing when conditions or the dog’s behavior require it, rather than finish a prepaid distance. Arrange cooled transport and a secure arrival handoff; the plan should cover the car-to-building segment as well as the main walk.
If the dog is uncomfortable sharing space, give the caregiver a simple, non-group option. Let the caregiver know which familiar cue or quiet activity the dog already understands. An unfamiliar busy run is not a necessary test of sociability, especially during a travel day.
Hotel-to-caregiver handoff
- Ask the accommodation whether unattended dogs are permitted and whether a caregiver may enter. Get the entry method approved rather than handing over an unauthorized key.
- Give the caregiver the actual room or pickup location, your event end time and a reachable backup person. Keep private access details in the handoff, not in a public review.
- Record the last meal and medication time, the next authorized action and a contact for questions. Do not ask the caregiver to improvise a dose.
- Agree on a return deadline and the alternate arrangement if you cannot return. Keep that agreement with the booking confirmation.
Save the emergency destination before you need it
VEG Las Vegas lists 24/7 walk-in emergency care, including holidays, at 800 South Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89145, 702-790-8242. It describes a large lot outside the hospital and offers help moving a pet inside when requested by phone. Save the Rampart address, not only the brand name, in the caregiver’s directions.
If a dog appears ill or injured, contact a veterinary team for triage and transport instructions. Do not wait for a routine daycare callback, a booking approval or a discount. Tell the caregiver which person can authorize care and how to reach you; do not leave that decision until an emergency happens. This guide provides access information, not a diagnosis or treatment plan.
Las Vegas questions that change the plan
Does “Las Vegas” on my address mean the city handles my dog license?
No. Use the residence check linked from the city’s licensing page before applying through its system. Confirm the correct authority for the actual home address.
Can I arrive at Barkin’ Basin whenever the park is normally open?
Check the run’s maintenance schedule and any temporary notice separately. Monday and Thursday include a routine 11:30 a.m.–4 p.m. dog-area closure. Regular hours do not confirm current availability.
Does a $42 boarding advertisement apply to my larger dog?
The Sahara menu restricts its Mini rate to dogs under 20 lb. Request the room and complete price for your dog rather than using the lowest menu figure.
Can I collect from Z Pet Hotels when its phone line is open?
Do not assume that. Its published lobby and daycare hours end at 4 p.m., while phone coverage extends later. Ask for an approved collection arrangement before planning an evening event.
Should I buy a daycare package before the acceptance assessment?
Arrange the required evaluation and confirm that the dates are usable first. A dog’s suitability and a holiday’s availability are different questions; both need an answer.
What if the dog cannot comfortably join group play?
Ask for the separate-care routine, its supervision and cost. A private sleeping room does not explain how the dog spends the day. If the facility cannot describe a suitable plan, choose a different arrangement.
Can a hotel sitter use my room key without asking the accommodation?
Get the accommodation’s permission and entry procedure first. Pet-friendly lodging does not automatically authorize unattended pets or outside caregivers.
