INDIANAPOLIS · THE CITY FIELD GUIDE
Indianapolis,
get through the right gate.
Start with one visit.
Separate Indy Parks passes from Fort Harrison access, find the correct registration stop, and plan care when an off-leash visit does not fit.
Choose the pass, the office and the dog entrance before setting out. They are not always the same stop.

Get through the gate before planning the outing
An Indianapolis dog-park visit can fail before your dog reaches the grass: the place selling the pass may be miles from the entrance, a city pass does not cover the state park, and a daycare's Sunday reception hours may only serve overnight guests. Build the trip around access and handover, rather than the nearest pin on a map.
For a new arrival, choose one park you will actually use, obtain its access credentials, and test a short visit. For airport travel, make the boarding appointment first and add a bath only if its collection arrangements fit your return. A crowded park or group daycare is optional; a quiet walk and individual care may suit your dog better.
- Choose the city park or Fort Harrison; identify who issues that park's access.
- Send the required vaccination records before leaving home.
- Save both the pass office and the actual dog entrance.
- Confirm the service's arrival and collection times for your exact date.
- Put a named backup collector on the booking.
- Keep the emergency hospital's number available offline.
Two destinations may be needed for one park visit
Use the map to organize the journey, then open the official park instructions. A search for the dog park itself will not necessarily take you to the pass office.
| Dog area | First stop for a pass | Then navigate to |
|---|---|---|
| Broad Ripple | Broad Ripple Park; 317-327-7161 | 1426 Broad Ripple Avenue |
| Gordon Gilmer, Eagle Creek | 7840 W. 56th Street; 317-327-7110 | 5900 N. High School Road |
| Paul Ruster | World Sports Park office, 1313 S. Post Road; 317-327-0143 | 11300 Prospect Street |
| Smock | Perry Park office, 451 E. Stop 11 Road; 317-888-0070 | 3910 E. County Line Road |
These are the locations published by Indy Parks, not live opening or closure information. Call the office before a special trip. Broad Ripple lists dawn-to-dusk dog-park access; that does not mean the pass counter keeps the same hours.
For an airport departure, save Priority Boarding separately from the terminal. For training south of the city, distinguish Beech Grove's obedience address from Pawsitive Partners' Indianapolis agility center. These trips serve different needs and should not be treated as one neighborhood circuit.
Broad Ripple Dog Park
Buy the access you need, not every pass available
Indy Parks lists a first-dog annual pass at $75, reduced to $55 after June 1 and $40 after September 1; a daily visit is $5 per dog. Its four-park VIP pass is $125, $105 or $95 across those dates, and is sold only at Broad Ripple. Registration requires current rabies, parvo, distemper and Bordetella records; the office issues a dog tag and gate reader.
At the posted October prices, eight $5 visits equal the $40 single-park fee; nineteen equal the $95 VIP fee. This is a simple cost comparison, not a promise about the pass's expiry or renewal. Ask which dates the pass covers before buying late in the year. If one nearby park meets your needs, access to all four is not automatically useful.
Fort Harrison is managed by Indiana DNR, which publishes a separate dog-park membership application and rules. Call 317-591-0904 for current membership, vaccination requirements and the dog-park entrance. Do not assume an Indy Parks VIP reader or general state-park admission opens that gate. Its general mapping address, 6000 N. Post Road, is not confirmation of the dog-park entry point.
Keep your dog secured while sorting out entry. If the gate is crowded, wait outside rather than releasing your dog into the arrival bottleneck. Do not improvise access by following another visitor through a locked gate. For practice before a busy outing, see our care comparison checklist.
Four services with different arrival conditions
The following are published service options, not inspections, rankings or endorsements. Prices were checked October 8, 2026; availability, suitability and the final bill require confirmation with the business.
Priority Boarding: establish the late-flight handover
7875 Milhouse Road, Indianapolis; 317-552-1000. Its boarding page advertises 24/7 drop-off and pickup access. Comfort suites for dogs under 20 lb start at $52/day; executive suites for 20–40 lb dogs start at $58/day; luxury suites start at $72/day. These are starting rates, not an all-inclusive itinerary quote.
Send actual arrival and departure times, including a delayed return. Ask how a late-night collector contacts staff, which day or partial day is billed, and whether group play is required or individual exercise can be arranged. Do not translate around-the-clock access into an assumption of unrestricted walk-in check-in.
Priority's spa: a bath is not a full haircut
The add-on menu lists baths from $40 depending on size and coat, canine nail trims at $25, ear cleaning at $13 and dematting at $5 per minute. Its spa-only instructions require arrival no later than 1 p.m.
Describe coat condition and ask which services the written quote includes. If matting is present, request a handling discussion and a spending limit before authorizing timed work. Ask whether a full haircut is offered; the listed bath and trim services do not establish that. For a post-boarding bath, confirm when it will happen if the flight is late and whether collection changes the charge.
Dogtopia: Sunday hours do not mean Sunday daycare
2121 Broad Ripple Avenue; 463-777-9588. Its branch menu lists $42 for a full daycare day and $32 for a half day, with a free Meet & Greet. The two-day weekly plan is $72; ask about billing, unused days and cancellation before enrollment. Boarding for a non-enrolled dog is $65/night and includes daycare.
Weekday hours are 7 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday is 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. is boarding pickup and drop-off only. A weekend worker needing Sunday day-only care should arrange another option. Ask how long a half day lasts and whether your dog's assessment must happen on an earlier date.
Pawsitive Partners: confirm the class and the building
Obedience center: 575 Main Street, Beech Grove; 317-787-4500. Its basic course is for dogs at least twelve months old, uses reward-based methods and lists eight weekly classes at $130. The page offers private lessons at $48 per half hour and cautions that a group of dogs and unfamiliar people may overwhelm a reactive dog.
Describe the behavior before choosing a class. Obtain the start date and enrollment confirmation; payment alone is not an instruction to appear at the next session. The agility center at 5750 Elmwood Avenue is a different facility. Confirm your session's actual address, vaccination documentation and what to bring. Beech Grove is a nearby municipality, not an Indianapolis neighborhood.
Compare the same travel dates and care arrangement
A posted boarding “day” rate and another provider's “night” rate cannot be compared by multiplication alone. Send both businesses the same arrival and collection times, dog weight, food and medication needs, and whether social daycare is suitable. Obtain the full total for that itinerary.
For example, three quoted days at $52 give a $156 base. That calculation does not establish whether a late return adds another charge. Enter only the business-confirmed base and required extras below; do not enter zero for an unanswered fee.
Keep the written cancellation deadline, after-hours instructions and backup collector's authorization with the quote. A lower total does not establish better supervision or a better fit.
Keep a fallback when an outdoor plan fails
Check the National Weather Service Indianapolis forecast and alerts before heading out. This page does not supply live surface conditions or closures. A paid pass is not a reason to stay through thunder, flooded ground or a dog showing discomfort.
For a morning before a flight, choose a short familiar outing rather than an unfamiliar social park. For a winter evening after training, have a brief toilet route and towels ready so the trip home does not become another demanding session. Dry, comfortable indoor rest is a legitimate alternative to using every paid activity.
Save a north-side emergency option before you need it
VEG Nora lists 24/7 emergency care at 1480 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240, 463-260-0014. Call for immediate instructions and tell staff what happened and where you are. This is not necessarily the fastest hospital from the airport or south side; ask for the appropriate destination.
Difficulty breathing, collapse or suspected poisoning needs veterinary guidance rather than a groomer, trainer or daycare appointment. Do not give home medication or induce vomiting unless a veterinarian directs it. A boarding business advertising veterinary ownership is not automatically an emergency hospital.
Questions that prevent a wasted trip
Can I buy an Eagle Creek pass at the dog gate?
Indy Parks directs buyers to the W. 56th Street office, separately from the N. High School Road dog area. Confirm counter hours and arrange the first stop before navigating to the gate.
Does the city VIP pass cover Fort Harrison?
Do not assume it does. Fort Harrison has a separate DNR membership process; confirm current access with its office before travelling.
Is Broad Ripple Dogtopia open for Sunday daycare?
The branch explicitly reserves Sunday reception for boarding handovers. Its opening hours alone would give the wrong answer for day-only care.
Can I schedule a full haircut with Priority's bath?
Ask. The public spa menu establishes baths and specific coat-care add-ons, not a full haircut for every coat. Get the service definition before booking.
Which Pawsitive Partners address should I use?
Use the confirmed class location. Basic obedience is described at the Beech Grove center; the Indianapolis agility building has a separate address. Save the confirmation rather than the first map result.
Should a park-shy dog start with group daycare?
Not automatically. Explain your dog's responses to the provider and discuss an assessment or individual care. A trainer may advise private work before an owner-attended group; neither service guarantees a behavior outcome.
